The 2021 itinerary of the Autogiro d’italia

A historic race and an epic itinerary to discover.  From Giovanni Agnelli, Emanuele Bricherasio, Vincenzo Lancia and many other names of great importance as Mario Umberto Borzacchini, Tazio Nuvolari, Campari, Varzi, Taruffi and Fangio to nowadays Markku Allen or Riccardo Patrese.Many drivers have accepted the challenge and enjoyed the blending of emotions that Autogiro offers.

The 2020 edition saw the crews taking part to  the Autogiro d’ Italia dealing with the difficult though spectacular roads of northern Italy along an itinerary almost 1700 Km long.

The 2021 itinerary will take participants through the mild hills and relaxing green roads of  central  Italy.  We shall be  starting from Misano Adriatico to then reach San Marino, Todi, Grosseto, Spoleto and Ascoli Piceno in an itinerary 1616 Km long divided into six legs.

11 of october 2021 – 1 Stage Misano World circuit – Repubblica di San Marino 248 Km49 %

The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, on the shores of the Adriatic coast shall be the starting scenario for the crews on their departure towards San Marino, first of our six stages.  We will be reaching the Serenissima Repubblica of San Marino after travelling throughout 275 Km of spectacular landscapes that shall drive us up to the Verghereto mountain by crossing the Bocca Seriola pass, which marks the boundary between Umbria and Marche.   Then, from the peak of Mount Fumaiolo, where the Tiber River rises, we shall be heading to San Marino, the smallest republic in the world, which will welcome us with its antique atmosphere, the three medieval towers on the top of the Monte Titano and the mosaic of contrades that make the most known picture of San Marino

From Mount Titano to the spectacular Umbria, the green heart of Italy.

Umbria is wordily renowned for its gentle landscapes packed with fiery red vineyards and silvery olive trees, the most characteristic suburbs and unspoiled nature.   It is said that Middle Ages has never ended In Umbria.  Infact, we will certainly feel surrounded by history.  Gubbio, Assisi, Spello, Torgiano and many others will be part of our way towards Piazza del Popolo of Todi, one of the most famous medieval complex in Italy. To get to the heart of the city we shall go through ancient walls and cobblestone alleys where the time seems to have stopped and middle age buildings are still in use.

From Todi on the green Umbria towards Grosseto, again on the sea, but this time the sea of the beautiful Maremma Toscana, where we shall arrive after having crossed suburbs and countries full of history. Wonderful Umbrian Villages such as San Gemini and Amelia,  along with Viterbo, the city of Popes, for many years seat of papacy,  and the stunning Bolsena Lake will be part of our stage.  We will be crossing  Pittigliano, Magliano and other stunning  tuscanian Villages  before arriving at Grosseto, on the Beautiful Piazza Dante with it’s trapezoidal shape.  that encloses Palazzo Aldobrandeschi and the cathedral of Grosseto.

From the beautiful Maremma Toscana we will be again heading to Umbria and the Tuscanian and Lazio coast up to Capalbio and Prescia, to then cross the Etruscan Tuscia and the north side of The Bolsena Lake.  On our way we shall pass through Orvieto, whose cathedral is worldwide known as one of the masterpices of the Italian gothic architecture.  Afterwards we shall be moving to the Tiber River Park from there we  will head to Spoleto, where Piazza duomo and its  beautiful cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, built in the XII century that  holds masterpieces of Filippo Lippi and Pinturicchio will be welcoming us

15 of October 2021 – 5th Stage Spoleto – Ascoli Piceno 251 Km82 %

On the road again, this time towards Marche.

Starting from Spoleto in the southern edge of the Umbrian valley, we will once again be crossing spectacular roads bordered by olive yards and vineyards up to Campello sul Clitunno, known for its fountains and for olive oil, and Norcia, on the foot of the Monti Sibillini, that shall be our entrance to the Marche.  From Bolognola, on the top the Monte Rotondo, we shall head towards Sarnano, one of most beautiful suburbs of Italy, then we shall head towards Ascoli Piceno. This time the beautiful Piazza del Popolo whit it’s renaissance style will be welcoming us.

From Ascoli, the city of the 100 towers, we shall head towards the medieval town of Fermo, then towards Macerata, Jesi and the unique Corinaldo, the most beautiful town of Italy in 2007, whose ancient city walls, polygonal bulwarks and watchtowers represent an example of military architecture.  We will then proceed alongside the Adriatic Sea, towards the end of our journey, of which we hope you will keep memories, as photographs taken by the heart to make special moments last forever
